THE STORY OF THE PLAY

Following the recent passing of their mother, four sisters - Clementine, Gio, Cassan, and Amber - reunite at their childhood home on an island off the coast of Georgia. It’s here that they gather to honor their mother’s memory by creating a family quilt in her name.
All of the sisters struggle to manage their grief with the hardships of their personal lives, a challenge that grows when they are all reunited. Clementine is the oldest of the four sisters and was the closest to Mama, making Mama's death the most difficult on her. Gio, the second born, is in the process of her own exhausting divorce and has turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms, much to the displeasure of her sisters. Cassan is struggling with single motherhood and the complexities of her only daughter Zambia, while the ambitious Amber takes the brunt of her sisters’ anger and resentment for being their mother’s “favorite.”
As the sisters quilt together, their glaring differences slowly rise to the surface as sharp words and strong feelings make themselves heard and felt by the group. When it’s revealed that their mother left behind a will, the sisters are forced to confront a number of tough decisions. With their beloved quilts left to Amber and their family home left to Clementine, the sisters are faced with an impossible decision regarding the fate of these items. The sisters ultimately decide to sell the quilts in order to keep their childhood home, simultaneously uncovering family truths that had been hidden for years, and undergoing a spiritual shift that both enlightens and frees them of their past traumas.
As the sisters return to their respective lives - drastically different and geographically far away from one another - they take comfort in their newfound closeness and understanding of one another.
